Sal's Kewl CAD — MDT guide

For officers, deputies, troopers, medics and firefighters: going on duty, taking calls, running plates and names, writing citations and reports, and calling for help. There is a short section at the end for civilians. Dispatchers have their own dispatcher's guide; server owners want the owner's manual.

Your first shift in five minutes

  1. In game, type /duty 1-ADAM-12 with your callsign. (After the first time, /duty on its own is enough.)
  2. Press F6 to open the MDT. Your status is along the bottom of the home screen.
  3. When dispatch sends you to a call, it pops up on your screen and a waypoint is set on your GPS. You are already marked en route.
  4. When you get there, type /os (on scene).
  5. Add notes with /note driver detained.
  6. When you are done, type /detach. You are cleared from the call and back to Available.

Your server can rename any of these commands. If one does not work, ask your supervisor what yours are called.

Opening the MDT

In game, press F6 or type /mdt. You do not need an item or a tablet in your inventory.

The first time, it takes a moment to connect. You are signed in automatically from your game character — there is no password to type.

To close it, click the ✕ in the corner of the tablet.

You can rebind F6 in the FiveM settings under Key Bindings → FiveM, listed as "CAD: open the terminal".

The home screen

The MDT opens on a home screen of large tiles, sized to hit with a mouse while driving. Your callsign and the clock are across the top. Your status, your current call and the status buttons are on the home screen.

TileWhat is in it
CallsEvery open call, with priority, location, status and age. Tap one to read the narrative and see who is on it.

CommandsThe list of everything you can type in chat.

Press the back arrow at the top of any screen to return home.

The "where you are" card

In game, the home screen also shows the street you are on, what you are driving and the plate of the vehicle in front of you, with buttons that save typing:

  • Run plate ahead — runs the car in front of you.
  • Run my plate — runs the car you are in.
  • Cite here, Arrest here, Incident here — opens that form with the street, coordinates and plate filled in.

Going on duty

Type /duty followed by your callsign:

/duty 1-ADAM-12

Chat confirms "On duty as 1-ADAM-12." and your callsign and status appear on your HUD in the top-right corner. Type /duty again to go off duty ("Off duty. Have a good one.").

Your callsign is saved the first time, so after that /duty on its own is enough. If you type /duty without one and the CAD has none on file for you, it tells you in chat and opens the MDT asking What is your callsign? — answer either place.

You can also go on duty with Go on duty on the MDT home screen. It is the same thing: your HUD, your position on the dispatch map and assignment waypoints all switch on either way.

Your agency comes from your job on the server. If you are in more than one, ask your supervisor which one your job is linked to.

Changing your status

Dispatch reads your status to decide who to send. Keep it current.

From the MDT

Tap a status button along the bottom of the home screen — usually Available, En route, On scene and Busy. The one you are in is highlighted.

From chat

TypeStatus
/10-8 or /clrAvailable
/enrEn route
/osOn scene
/busyBusy
/transport PillboxTransporting, with the destination noted on the call
/athospAt hospital
/status OOSAny other code — here, Out of service

Chat confirms each change with Status: and the new status, and your HUD shows it. If dispatch changes your status for you, the HUD flashes "Dispatch set you …" so you notice.

These shortcuts work whatever your community calls its statuses — on a server that uses ten-codes, /os still sets on scene. For anything else, use /status with your server's code, like /status 10-7. If you type a code that does not exist, chat lists the ones your server uses.

The quick status key

In the FiveM key bindings, bind "CAD: quick status" to a key. Pressing it shows your community's quick statuses to pick from (or, on servers without a menu resource, the codes to type).

Why a status is refused

  • En route, On scene, Transporting and At hospital need a call. If you are not assigned to one, chat tells you so. Take a call first, or use Busy or Out of service.
  • You cannot set EMERGENCY yourself except with /panic.

Getting and taking calls

When dispatch sends you

You do not need to do anything to accept it:

  • A notification shows the call type and location. Priority 1 and 2 calls are red and play a sound.
  • A waypoint is set on your GPS automatically.
  • You are marked En route.
  • Your HUD shows the call number, type and location until you clear.

Open the Calls tile to read the full narrative.

Taking a call yourself

If nobody is dispatching, or you see something you can handle:

  1. Open My shift.
  2. Under Calls waiting, find the call and tap Take it.

You are attached and set en route. From chat: /attach 26-000119, or just the end of the number — /attach 119. Your HUD confirms "Attached to 26-000119".

Take the nearest call with one key

Bind "CAD: take the nearest call" in the FiveM key bindings. Pressing it attaches you to the most urgent call waiting, the closest one first, and sets you en route.

Starting your own call

  • /ts — a traffic stop on the vehicle in front of you. The plate is read for you.
  • Calls you start yourself are attached to you automatically.

On a call

  1. Arrive: /os, or tap On scene.
  2. Add notes as things happen: /note driver detained, one in custody. Notes go on the call's permanent record, dispatch sees them straight away, and your HUD confirms "Note added".
  3. Transporting a prisoner or patient: /transport Mission Row, then /athosp when you arrive at a hospital.
  4. Finished: /detach, or tap Clear from call on the MDT home screen. You come off the call and go back to Available, and the waypoint is removed.
/clr and /10-8 make you Available but leave you attached to the call. To actually come off the call, use /detach or Clear from call.

Dispatch closes the call when everybody is done. You do not need to close it yourself.

Fire and EMS: the Assignment screen

Members of a fire or EMS agency get an extra Assignment tile. It shows the call you are on and the whole response — every unit on the assignment, its status and its turnout time — so you know what else is coming.

  • Tap En route when you leave quarters and On scene when you arrive. These stamp the times, and your department's response-time statistics are only as accurate as these taps.
  • Clear puts you back in service. To come off the call entirely, use /detach.
  • Under Paperwork, Start fire report and Start patient care report open the right form.

Running a plate or a name

From chat — fastest at a traffic stop

TypeRuns
/plateThe vehicle in front of you
/plate 46EEK572A specific plate
/name Marcus DelgadoA person (up to three matches)
/serial ABC123A firearm serial number

The answer comes back as a few lines in chat. Warnings come first, in red — stolen vehicle, active warrant, armed and dangerous — and also flash on your HUD with a sound. Then the registration, insurance, owner and license status.

From the MDT

  1. Open Lookup, or tap Run plate ahead on the home screen.
  2. Type a plate, a name or a serial number. It searches as you type.
  3. Anything dangerous is in a red box at the top. Below are the people and vehicles that matched, with chips for warrants, flags, stolen, expired registration and no insurance.

What you see depends on your agency: law enforcement sees warrants and criminal history; fire and EMS see blood type, allergies, conditions and DNR status. A medic running an unconscious patient's name gets the medical side.

Citations, arrests and reports

Starting one at the scene

Stand next to the person and type:

  • /cite — a citation
  • /arrest — an arrest report
  • /incident — an incident report

The form opens already filled in with the nearest person (within about four meters), the plate of the vehicle you are looking at or sitting in, and the street. If nobody is close enough, chat says so and the form opens empty.

The Cite here, Arrest here and Incident here buttons on the MDT home screen fill in the location and plate, but not the person.

Filling it in

  1. Search for the person with Search by name and the vehicle with Search by plate. Click Change to pick a different one.
  2. For citations and arrests, add charges with + add a charge…. Set the counts. The running total of the fine and jail time updates as you go — a judge can change any of it later.
  3. Fill in the rest of the form.
  4. Click Submit.

Submitting a citation gives it a number and adds the points to the person's license. An arrest creates the arrest record.

Finishing it later

Click Save draft to keep what you have. To pick it up again, open the Reports tile in the MDT (or Records → Reports in a browser), tap the report, and click Continue editing. When it is done, click Submit.

The forms

Your community decides which of these each role can use:

  • Citation, Written Warning
  • Arrest Report (Miranda, search, property, booking)
  • Incident Report, Field Interview
  • Use of Force Report, Pursuit Report, Warrant Request
  • Impound Record, Evidence / Property, Tow Job
  • Fire Incident Report (firefighters), Patient Care Report (medics)
  • Shift Log

Start any of them from Write a report on the MDT's Reports tile, or in a browser from Records → Reports → Write a report. The Start fire report and Start patient care report buttons on the Assignment screen link the report to your call.

If a report is returned

If your community has supervisors approve reports, a returned report shows a notification ("Report … was returned") and a red returned count on the Reports tile. Tap it to read why, then click Fix and resubmit.

Panic, backup and requesting help

Panic

Type /panic. You can also bind a key to it: in the FiveM key bindings, set "CAD: officer emergency".

  • Chat confirms: EMERGENCY sent. Every unit has been told.
  • A priority 1 OFFICER EMERGENCY call is created at your location with you on it, and you go to the top of every dispatcher's board.
  • Every on-duty unit gets an alert, a sound and a waypoint to you.

When you are safe, set yourself back to Available (/10-8). That clears the emergency.

The MDT itself has no panic button — use the command or the key.

Backup

/backup normal urgency
/backup 3 most urgent
/backup 3 shots fired, suspect running north

Urgency is 1 to 3 (2 if you leave it out). To add a note, put the urgency number first. If you are on a call, the request is added to that call and its priority goes up; otherwise a new Backup requested call is created at your location. Other units get an alert and a waypoint.

Requesting other services

TypeCreates a call at your location for
/towA tow truck
/emsEMS
/fireThe fire department

Add a few words after any of them to say what you need.

BOLOs

The BOLOs tile shows everything currently out. When a new one is issued, you get a notification in game. A BOLO with a plate also flags that plate on plate readers.

To issue one yourself from the street, type it: /bolo red Sultan, two occupants, last seen northbound on Route 68. It goes out straight away, numbered, to every terminal, and your HUD shows the number. For a plate or more detail, type /bolo with nothing after it: the BOLO form opens — pick what it is about, add the plate (which also flags it on plate readers), write a headline and details, and click Issue and broadcast.

Using the MDT in a browser

Everything except the "where you are" card works in a normal browser too — handy for writing reports after a shift.

  1. Open your community's CAD address and sign in with your email and password (or Continue with Discord).
  2. Click MDT in the top bar.

If you do not have a password, link your game account first or ask an administrator to invite you.

For civilians: your character and 911

The citizen portal showing characters, vehicles, tickets, court and job applications

Opening your record

In game, type /character. In a browser, sign in and click Portal. Any player can use it — you do not need to be in an agency.

At the top you see any outstanding fines, court dates and licenses. If a license is suspended, there is a red banner.

The tabs

TabWhat you can do
My charactersSee your characters and click Edit to fill in your phone, address, occupation, appearance and medical details.
VehiclesSee what you own, its registration and insurance, and whether it is impounded or reported stolen. Click Register a vehicle to add one, if your server allows it.
TicketsSee what you owe and click Pay.
CourtHearings you are due at, with the date, case and room.
Apply for a jobApply to any agency that is hiring, and see where your applications stand.

Fill in your medical details

Under Edit → "Medical, for the medic who finds you": blood type, emergency contact, allergies, conditions, medications and a Do not resuscitate option. When a medic runs your name, this is what they see. It is only there if you fill it in.

Your name, date of birth and gender come from the game and cannot be changed here — change them in game.

Calling 911

/911 there's a car on fire on Route 68 near the gas station
/311 someone's been parked across my driveway all day

/911 is for emergencies; /311 is for everything else. Your location and your character are sent with the call. Chat confirms: "Your call has been passed to dispatch."
